We have acquired a quantity of the Vifa A16CJ-21-04, which is a very high quality Vifa coaxial speaker, manufactured in Denmark.  It uses an Audax TW48A style tweeter for high frequencies.  This unit has an injection molded, quite strong, polymer frame, and a rubber roll, polypropylene body cone.  It is sealed from the front, making it excellent for outdoor and (fresh water) marine applications.  A hefty magnet and 1-1/4″ copper wire voice coil provide drive for the low and mid frequencies.

PR Audio highly recommends that instead of the simple capacitor crossover that comes with the unit, this unit should be used with our custom 7 component crossover, designed specifically for this coax.  The combination results in exceptionally clean, smooth sound, for a 6-1/2″ coax.  Vocals are exceptionally clear and warm, and highs are excellent, even off axis, bested only by good soft dome tweeters, in our experience.  For even greater sound quality and low distortion, we recommend crossing over to a subwoofer, even if you are not a “basshead”:  Because the crossover to the sub* diverts lows from the 6-1/2″ woofer that would otherwise cause intermodulation distortion in the 6-1/2″ woofer section, the upper bass and midrange is even further improved.  Balance the sub(s) properly to the coax, and you will have sound that borders on “magic”, as one of our customers put it.  You may find yourself wanting to take trips in the car just to listen to the stereo!  (Sorry about those added oil imports, Pres. Obama!)

We highly recommend the SunDown SAX-50.4 amplifier to push this speaker, as it has great sound, and excellent crossover flexibility to go with it.

*If you like “natural” sound, you probably can get by with a good 8″ or 10″ sub and a moderate amount of power to push it.  The “keys” to great sound with these are the inherent quality of the coax’s themselves, a good crossover between the 6-1/2″ woofer and the tweeter, a good installation, and not modulating the mids with low bass.  Of course, if you want more bass than that, that’s ok too!  We have some terrific 12″ subwoofers, and great subwoofer amps to drive them… 

Price:  $80.00/pair, including the custom crossovers encapsulated in heat shrink, with 6″ lead-in / lead-out wires, all labelled.  We also strain relief treat all the tinsel leads in the coax.  Each unit is re-checked before it ships, and of course you get our usual packing to UPS/FedEx guidelines.
