Square Drive Screws
We have a small quantity of Robertson (square) drive pan head sheet metal type screws available. We find these most useful in cases where we are experimenting with speaker systems and are putting in or removing mounting screws for drivers going in and out of a cabinet, etc. The square drive helps to avoid one of a speaker builder’s worst nightmares: Having a screwdriver bit slip and puncture or otherwise damage a nice driver. Obviously this is most likely to happen if you have a reason to be repeatedly installing / uninstalling a driver / drivers.
What we like to do is to use these for experimentation and such, and then do the final installation with “zipper” type screws with black oxide finish. The “zipper” screws have deeper threads, allowing them to get a little better grab in the “used” screw hole, without as much chance of cracking the MDF or particle board as if using “the next size up” standard type screw, or having to redrill the hole.
These screws are also useful in Pro Sound applications.
As mentioned, we only have a small quantity of these at present, so, we are only selling them in qty’s sufficient to mount the drivers that you buy from us, or, up to 20 of each size, per order, if they are purchased separately. We’d appreciate feedback on these: If there is a little demand, we are thinking of stocking larger qty’s and making these available in larger quantities (with lower pricing per piece in the larger qty’s, of course!)
Currently available:
#8 x 1/2″ $.04ea. P/N 8SQ-PAN-0.5Z
#8 x 1″ $.05ea. P/N 8SQ-PAN-1.0Z
#10 x 1/2″ $.05ea. P/N 8SQ-PAN-0.5Z
#10 x 1″ $.05ea. P/N 8SQ-PAN-1.0Z
#10 x 1 1/2″ $.06ea. P/N 8SQ-PAN-1.5Z
#12 x 1″ $.05ea. P/N 8SQ-PAN-1.0Z
These all take #2 square drive bits, except the #12 screws, which require a #3 square drive bit.
Again, for now, we are only selling these in qty’s sufficient to mount the drivers that you buy from us, or, up to 20 of each size, per order, if they are purchased separately.
P.S. If you need a driver bit, let us know. The bits should be available at any hardware store, so we are not planning on selling them. However, if it would be more convenient for us to make bits available also, let us know: We always want to know how to serve you best.
