Quality 1″ soft dome tweeter at a cheapy 1/2″ mylar cone/dome tweeter* price!!

Nice, Vifa style 1″ soft fabric dome tweeter, mfg. by Sammi in Korea (better quality than most Chinese sources.)

Bucking magnet for reduced external field.

Ferrofluid for high power handling, and easier crossover design.

We power tested this for 8 hours with a continuous 20w RMS signal @ 3000 Hz - no problem! Should be fine in a 120 watt system, with recommended crossover.

Recommended (electrical) crossover: 18 dB/octave or steeper, at 4500Hz or higher.

Quite efficient: Approx. 95 dB/2.83v/1m.**

8 ohm impedance.

Mounts in same hole / screw pattern as std. Vifa 1″ domes. Details:

Flange (overall) diameter 105 mm / 4.134″.

4 mounting holes: 4.3mm / .17″ dia., 90° spacing on a 94.8 mm / 3.73″ bolt circle.

Fits 72-80 mm / 2.83-3.15″ cut out diameter (notches for terminals required.)

30 mm / 1.18″ mounting depth.

Comes with rear gasket attached for good air seal to cabinet. Std. 3mm / 1.18″ solder terminals. (See pics.)

Individually tested for proper operation @ PR Audio.

Unit does NOT have tinsel type leads, so, best used at 4500 Hz or higher, we advise.

Originally made for (the now defunct, we think?) Audiophile, Inc.

Quite good off axis curves. Could be eq’d in the crossover to be pretty close to flat to 20kHz, on axis, still at over 90 dB sensitivity, and then with nearly double(?) the in-system power handling. (Then that 15° curve really looks good, too!)

Magenta = 1.414 volts, 1/2 meter, 0°, .3 octave smoothing.**

Yellow = 1.414 volts, 1/2 meter, 15°, .3 octave smoothing.**

Blue = 1.414 volts, 1/2 meter, 30°, .3 octave smoothing.**

**Driver was not recessed into baffle (that would likely flatten the response some, by eliminating diffraction effects at the outer edge of the unit.) Also note 1.414 volts, 1/2 meter = ~ 2.828 volts, 1 meter, and 2.828 volts is a nominal 1 watt into a nominal 8 ohms.

We can also provide pairs or sets with (slight) deliberate mismatch of the level (but very similar curves otherwise.) This may be useful in certain applications. (This will only be 2 dB or so, as so far these units have been testing fairly consistently in all regards.) Contact us for details.

Price:

$8.00 each; 2/$15; 10/$70; 30/$200. (Large qty’s available.) Units with individual curves for each are $3 extra, per curve, up to 12 pieces or curves; please contact us if your quantity to be curved is over 12 pieces or curves. See also our page on technical services or contact us for details.)

Matched pairs (± 1 dB 3500- 20kHz) with curves $25/pr. The price includes packaging (double boxing) and shipping will be at actual cost, plus a small handling fee if your total order is under $100 (see ordering details here.)

*A word of caution: Many so-called “1/2 inch polymer dome tweeters” are actually knockoffs of the old Audax TW51a / TW74a series tweeters, and have 10mm (.39″) diameter voice coils, just like the Audax units. This is not true of all, and, we are not saying all those are necessarily bad tweeters, either! However, if you are comparing this Sammi tweeter to a $3 Goldwood mylar dome tweeter, or, even the $7 Tang Band cloth diaphragm version of the Audax, well… there’s just no real comparison…! The Audax DW80M comes closer (if you get a good one, anyway — See also our page discussing some of the “w” construction polymer dome tweeters, such as the Audax, etc., here.
