Here is a terrific 12″ heavy duty woofer with a 3″ diameter dual coil, built on the frame Paul designed back in the early ’90′s.*  This woofer has a long, 12.5mm Xmax, and works very well in a wide range of both sealed and ported boxes, in both car audio and home theater applications, as well as just a “simple” audiophile subwoofer.   It competes very well with woofers selling for up to $200 each, and is better than many of them.

Notes:

1)  Driver is available prewired for 4 ohm operation with 14 ga. (plus) speaker wire; “copper” color = positive, “silver” = negative.

2)  This woofer is capable of a wide variety of responses in different boxes.  Ie., it is fairly flexible in various applications, and not too “box sensitive”.

3)  Computer projections show this woofer as “fine” in some of the ported cabinet configurations, at up to 800 watts of unclipped amplifier power.*  Remember that a steep infrasonic (subsonic) filter cutting in at 32 Hz is mandatory for full power handling capability.  (This is similar to almost any ported car audio woofer / box, of course:  Bass significantly under the box tuning frequency should be filtered out, for full power handling.
