Good quality unit mfg. by Sammi. This is an efficient driver with a good response curve and a nice, warm, smooth sound with good punch. It works well with our Sammi tweeter & in line arrays. If used singly in high power applications, this driver is best with a woofer / subwoofer running below it. As a woofer or woofer/mid, it is best with small amps. This speaker is well shielded and therefore excellent for A-V applications near CRT’s, or around computers.

Notes

 

This driver requires less baffle step compensation than most small drivers, which is a nice characteristic.  In many uses, you may be able to get away with no baffle step compensation at all.  This driver is also inexpensive enough to use in medium cost line or partial line sources with multiple closely spaced drivers.  Partial line sources in particular can be useful where floor and ceiling reflections are a problem.

Magenta = 1.414 volts, 1/2 meter, 0°, 0.3octave smoothing.

Yellow = 1.41. volts, 1/2 meter, 15°, 0.3octave smoothing.

Blue = 1.414 volts, 1/2 meter, 30°, 0.3octave smoothing.

Driver was not recessed into baffle (that would likely smooth the upper end response somewhat, by eliminating diffraction effects at the outer edge of the unit.) Also note 1.414 volts, 1/2 meter ≈ 2.828 volts, 1 meter, and 2.828 volts is a normal 1 watt into a nominal 8Ω load.

We can also provide pairs or sets with a slight deliberate mismatch of the level (but very similar curves otherwise.) This may be useful in certain applications. (This will only be 2-3 dB or so, as these units have been testing fairly consistently.)  Contact Us for details.
