Phoenix Gold Z8 “Silver” 8 ga. Power Cable

We recently tried out some Phoenix Gold Z8 (Zeropoint) “Silver” 8 gauge power cable, and like it a lot. No, it’s not actually “silver” wire”: It’s actually finely stranded rope lay copper wire in which each of the 735 copper strands has been tin plated to resist corrosion / oxidation, and promote easy soldering. This, plus the clear insulative jacket, produces the “silver” color. According to Phoenix Gold, this cable is ”ultra flexible (735 strands) and features a silver translucent jacket that is gas, oil, and high-temperature resistant.” Well, ok, actually the insulation is clear and the wire is silver color, but that’s alright. We did a little Internet research on “zeropoint” wire / cable, and our conclusion is that it’s a somewhat fancy manufacturing process that probably makes very little if any difference in power wire. “ZEROpoint cables use the patented Ohno continuous casting method to draw pure copper into a single unidirectional… “ says one source. (We hope this doesn’t mean that in manufacture, with wire zipping through the factory making it, the workers are not continuously saying “oh, no!” )
But, seriously, this is very nice, flexible cable that actually is the gauge it is rated to be, and we very much like the anti-corrosion characteristic: It should be great for car audio and marine audio usage.
