Peerless 812687 1″ Soft Dome Tweeter

Very nice 1″ soft dome tweeter, manufactured by Tymphany / Peerless in Denmark.  This tweeter features an “airy”, strong upper octave with no harshness, and very “open” sound.  The fully exposed dome provides excellent dispersion, while a solid aluminum faceplate provides mechanical rigidity and an effective heat sink to improve long term power handling.  This is the tweeter used in a well known DIY kit known as the EFE, designed by Ed Frias, which received some outstanding reviews.  It is also known as the Peerless DT 105 H.

Felt dome behind diaphragm to reduce reflections off the pole piece, and reduce resonances.

Crossover recommendation:  For full power handling, use an 18 dB/oct or steeper HP filter at 4.8 kHz or higher.  Crossovers down to 3.5 kHz may be used at reduced power, and especially if steeper slopes are employed.

*Note: The manufacturer’s power rating given is for system power, assuming a proper crossover as noted above.  For example, this tweeter, crossed over at 5 kHz, 18 dB per octave, in a 3-way system with a woofer and midrange, should be fine, running off an amp rated at 120 watts RMS per channel.  We can confirm that using this tweeter, in such a system, running off a modified Hafler DH220 (a very strong 120 watts / channel amp), it will run all day at just below clipping levels, with no problem at all.  (It’s very nice, too - no listener fatigue!)
