Fiberfill damping material (enclosure fill / stuffing)
We obtained quite a bit of fiberfill for enclosure stuffing / damping material, recently, and are making some of it available for sale. This type of fiberfill is a medium-effective material: Long fiber wool or Acousta-Stuff have greater effect, but are more expensive. Fiberglass (particularly acoustic grades) can also be more effective, though one must watch out for reflective “smooth” or flat surfaces with it. And of course fiberglass is irritating to many people, and keeping loose fibers from getting into woofer voice coil gaps can be a problem / complication. We have had good results in many cases, using fiberfill between woofers and the rest of the cabinet filled with fiberglass, in a ratio overall of about 2:1 fiberglass. One can also vary the density (of either or both) in various parts of the cabinet. We have also used fiberfill for vent stuffing / damping in “aperodic” type enclosures (think, Dynaco A-25, Dynaudio Variovent, etc.) and transmission lines. Again, experimenting with the density, and sometimes using variable density, is key.
Normally, it is probably not worthwhile to mailorder and ship fiberfill by itself, but, kept in the bag, it makes good packing material for medium weight articles. So, if you have a project going and need some fiberfill AND some other parts, this may make sense. We do have a good price…
Price: $2.00 per 1 lb. (16 oz. / 0.454 kg) bag.
